What did you use the internet for before YouTube, Facebook, Myspace, Twitter ext?

Say, around the time of 2002 or before when the internet was a pretty boring place in my opinion, what did you use it for? I used to find it difficult to even think of something to do on the internet. I'd just sit in front of Yahoo wondering what to search, because Yahoo and Google were on more of an equal plane back then. What are your early internet memories?
